Autonomic | Building the Foundation for Connected Vehicle Intelligence
As the automotive industry accelerated toward autonomous and connected vehicle technology, Autonomic saw an opportunity to lead with a data-driven fleet management platform. To bring its vision to life, the company needed to quickly stand up a digital presence and a data-collection app capable of streaming real-world vehicle information from early test fleets. Having recently launched, Au lacked the internal bandwidth to move at speed. Relying on previous successful collaborations, they turned to TribalScale—a partner known for its rapid, agile execution and deep expertise in automotive digital solutions.
Challenge
Autonomic needed to develop a company website and an iOS application that could serve two purposes: establish brand credibility and gather real-world vehicle data for early product validation. The team faced three key challenges:
Speed to market: Launch both digital properties within months to support funding and partnership discussions.
Scalability: Ensure the platforms could evolve alongside Autonomic’s ambitious roadmap.
Limited resources: Deliver enterprise-quality output with a lean internal team.
TribalScale’s role was to act as an integrated partner—building the technology foundation that would help Autonomic test, learn, and scale.
Solution
TribalScale’s engineering, design, and product teams worked hand-in-hand with Au’s leadership and developers, embedding agile and Extreme Programming (XP) practices from day one. We co-created the architecture for the iOS app and company website in parallel, ensuring consistency across the digital ecosystem. Daily standups, weekly iterations, and story acceptance sessions kept progress transparent and efficient—delivering a working prototype in record time.
iOS Application
The iOS app enabled test vehicles to stream data directly to the cloud. Paired with a Bluetooth device, it collected metrics such as speed, location, gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, and altimeter readings. Users could toggle uploads on and off, allowing controlled testing.
To handle massive data volumes, TribalScale engineers implemented the gRPC network protocol framework, compressing vehicle telemetry for efficient cloud uploads. This ensured seamless, real-time streaming of large datasets to Autonomic’s backend, powering analytics for fleet optimization and performance monitoring.
Company Website
TribalScale’s design and engineering teams created Autonomic’s initial web presence using Jekyll (a static site generator) and SCSS with a scalable 7–1 architecture pattern. The goal: a lightweight, fast-loading site that established brand credibility while attracting recruits and investors.
A custom Content Management System (CMS) was integrated, allowing Au’s internal teams to edit and publish updates without touching the codebase—crucial for a fast-evolving startup.
